Our Materials: CertiPUR-US Polyurethane Foam
At Gardner Mattress we pride ourselves on quality craftsmanship, so we would never use subpar quality material to create the mattresses of your dreams. Today, we’ll discuss our use of CertiPUR-US Polyurethane Foam and how it meets our standards.
This foam meets the CertiPUR-US® standards for content, emissions, and durability. Prior to the establishment of CertiPUR-US standards, many consumers had nothing to guide them. How could you find comfort buying and using materials when you weren’t even 100% sure what was in the product?
As their website discusses: “CertiPUR-US has demystified a critical aspect of shopping for mattresses, mattress toppers, pillows and upholstered furniture, which typically contain conventional or viscoelastic (memory) flexible polyurethane foam for cushioning.”
And you might be thinking, well if we weren’t sure before, how can they guarantee the materials are as genuine as they say? CertiPUR-US not only makes sure foams meet the criteria of content, emissions, and durability, but are also analyzed by independent, accredited laboratories.
To combat the amount of substandard foams and materials being used, the CertiPUR-US formed in 2008. Luckily they had because a number of foams on the market contained chemicals that were banned in the United States or listed by watch groups as cancerous and/or harmful to our well-being.
When buying anything, but especially a mattress, you want to know it isn’t slowly hurting you. How could you get a good night’s sleep otherwise?
Now with CertiPUR-US extensive and thorough certification program, you’ll know that your bedding, upholstered furniture, and mattresses that use these certified foams are:
- Made without ozone depleters
- Made without PBDEs, TDCPP or TCEP (“Tris”) flame retardants
- Made without mercury, lead, and other heavy metals
- Made without formaldehyde
- Made without phthalates regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission
- Low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emissions for indoor air quality (less than 0.5 parts per million
Our traditional mattresses use CertiPUR-US Polyurethane Foam such as:
