How Can You Get the Most Out of Your Mattress?

Most of us don’t give a second thought to our mattress until it begins to show signs of wear and tear. Then we start thinking about ways to make it last a little longer until we can explore new options.

There are straightforward ways to get the most out of your mattress, whether you want to extend its lifespan or pass it on to another family member after purchasing a new one. Here are a few suggestions to make your mattress last a little longer.

Protect Your Mattress

From the start, it’s essential to protect your mattress from accidental spills, pests, dust, and allergens. This step alone can extend the lifespan of your mattress as you will avoid stains, wet messes, and potential bed bugs or dust mites that could make sleeping difficult. An enclosed mattress protector can bring peace of mind, knowing your bed will be protected from allergens and accidental spills, from the occasional breakfast in bed.

Regular Cleaning

Sometimes the mattress gets overlooked when it comes time to clean our bedrooms. This would be a mistake, as regular cleaning can help you get the most out of your mattress.

While you have your vacuum out for your bedroom, consider stripping your bed and doing a general cleaning. Running a vacuum or steam over your mattress can help remove dust, mites, and allergens that can build up as we head into spring and keep our windows open throughout the day, allowing pollen and other particles to collect.

In the event of a spill or accident, consider wiping it down and scrubbing the stain with a gentle mixture of warm water and detergent. Allow the area to dry before replacing the sheets.

Rotating & Flipping

Gardner Mattresses are designed to be flipped and used on both sides. Therefore, it’s a great idea to schedule a regular flip of the mattress once or twice a year or should you sense that an area has begun to sag. This flipping will allow the compressed area to bounce back before it is used again.

Rotating a mattress means moving the head of the mattress to the end of the bed. This rotation also helps extend the life of your mattress. Each of these techniques allows your mattress to wear evenly and extends its life a bit.

Get Some Fresh Air

When the weather cooperates, you should allow your bed to get some fresh air and breathe. Strip your bed and open your bedroom windows to allow the air to circulate. This technique can help reduce any odors and potentially kill any bacteria that have taken hold.
