Getting Your Guest Room Ready for the Holidays
Oh the holidays! One of the most exciting times of the year, but there is so much to do! Between planning dinners with everyone’s dietary needs and buying all the presents, you’re really trying to avoid adding more to your list. But unfortunately, you’ll need to do some cleaning and rearranging of the space for your holiday guests.
Read on to see how getting your guest room ready for the holidays will be the easiest thing to cross off your list.
Assess The Space
The guest room door squeaks every time it opens and layers of dust are coating the nightstand table. Or something even worse: your guest room has become a very disorganized walk-in closet.
You don’t want to get overwhelmed, but assessing the space to know how much time you’ll need to set aside in order to clean will be so important. That way you can get through your tasks and then not end up panicking the night before they arrive and realize the old mattress has a sharp spring popping through ready for your unsuspecting guests.
Taking it one step at a time and will make it better and easier for you over the holiday season and beyond.
Fresh Linens
Yes, the sheets on the bed are technically clean. You remember making the bed last year after guests left. Or maybe you’ve only been in to lay down because your partner’s snoring was just a bit too much. Still the guest bed should get fresh sheets before guests arrive, maybe a week ahead. This is so any kind of musty smell or dust that’s been clinging to the bed won’t end up bothering your guests. Also, is there anything better than sinking into clean and crisp sheets? Don’t deprive your guests that bit of luxury.
You’ll also want to clean any comforters or quilts that have been on the bed for the same reason.
Mattress Toppers and Protectors
It’s not unheard of for a guest mattress to be an older mattress that the owners either grew out of or upgraded to a mattress that really fits their lives.
While it might not be the most loved mattress of the household, you will want your guests to be comfortable. If you didn’t, you’d let them sleep on the couch. No, comfort is key. So before making the bed with your fresh linens, test the mattress. Especially if you haven’t laid down on it for a while.
Is the mattress too firm? Or too soft? Uncomfortable for a variety of reasons? You could try putting a mattress topper on the bed. The addition of a flush and structure may help make your guest mattress become downright luxurious.
You can also decide on a mattress topper and protector combination all rolled into one! While you don’t expect your guests to drop red wine on the bed, you also want to be prepared. Getting stains out of a mattress can be a bit of a pain, so why not avoid it entirely?
But if the bed feels too firm or springs are even poking out, you may want to consider buying a new mattress eventually. One built and made to last. A mattress like one from Gardner Mattress. Well-made, family owned, and ready to support you and any guests you have stop by this holiday season.
