3 More Mattress Myths Debunked
We’ve debunked mattress myths before, but there is a lot of information out there that has either become outdated or was always straight-up incorrect. That’s why we’re back again to set the record straight with more mattress myths to debunk. With this new knowledge, you’ll sleep better at night. Not just because you’ll know certain things aren’t true, but because you’ll be able to use this information to better shop for and care for your mattress.
All Mattresses Need Box Springs
Box springs can be extremely beneficial. They provide more support to the mattress and raise it higher so it’s easier to get in and out of bed. But not every mattress needs a box spring. In fact, you absolutely should not get a box spring if your bed has an adjustable base.
Adjustable bases need full freedom to bend the mattress so you can adjust the angles and incline for better sleep positions. A box spring is meant to be solid and rigid, so using a box spring with an adjustable bed base would prevent both from doing their jobs properly. So a mattress only needs a box spring in certain circumstances.
Your Mattress Should Be Perfect Right Away
While it’s important to find the perfect mattress for your sleep position and needs, “perfect” isn’t always an instantaneous thing. A new mattress, even if it’s built to your specifications, from the size to the firmness to the materials, might not feel completely comfortable when you first start sleeping on it. That’s because mattresses, much like hiking boots, need to be broken in over time.
While it might not be perfect at first, as your body is adjusting to something new after years of sleeping on a different mattress, the more you sleep on your mattress, the better it will be. Breaking in a mattress simply takes time and patience. Because we know a new mattress takes time to adjust to and break-in, we offer a 90-day risk-free trial when you buy one of our mattresses.
A Mattress Should Be Flipped Every Few Months
Flipping your mattress is great for its longevity, but this is only in the case of flippable mattresses, like the ones we make. Flippable mattresses are padded on both sides, so you’re able to sleep comfortably on both. However, not all manufacturers make flippable mattresses. This means that not every mattress should be flipped every few months.
If you do have a flippable mattress, you should indeed flip it roughly four times per year. This increases its lifespan and allows the material to decompress as you won’t be sleeping on it. Every mattress we sell can be flipped, so consider this a hard rule for any mattress you buy from us. If you got your mattress elsewhere, check to see if both sides are padded and refrain from flipping if they’re not. Instead, you’d be better off rotating your mattress.
Mattress myths can make it harder for you to find the right mattress for you, so we’ll continue to debunk them for you. This way you’ll have the best information possible when shopping for your new mattress.
